Meet Zephyrene
Zephyrene is a wayfinder who helps those living on planet Earth.
From a Galaxy Far Away
In Zephyrene’s galaxy, an acclaimed school teaches gifted students to guide species toward better ways of life. Zephyrene (whom friends often call "Ze" for short) got into the wayfinder program by demonstrating shapeshifting, eukaryotic* communication, and a love for nature. After graduating, Ze became an apprentice on Earth. Now Ze is the planet’s sole wayfinder.
* Eukaryotic refers to all multicellular organisms, including humans, animals, plants, and fungi.
Life on Earth
Each day is a new adventure for Zephyrene, who has come to care deeply for Earth and its diverse inhabitants. All species benefit from Ze’s guidance, especially humans.
Human activity can have major impacts on the planet, so Ze frequently shapeshifts into human form to help people learn how to take care of Earth. Ze’s favorite people to work with are kids.
When traveling from place to place, Zephyrene always brings a satchel full of clever tools to help species preserve and protect Earth. Ze’s motto is “Love the land; show pride in your place.”
Turn Everyday Outings Into Adventures...With Ze
Sometimes all it takes is a little imagination to get kids excited about heading outdoors. Instead of saying, "Let's go for a walk," try asking, "Where should Ze explore today?"
Print, color, and cut out Zephyrene, then bring Ze along on hikes, park visits, beach days, neighborhood walks, and other outdoor adventures. Snap photos together, look closely at the plants and animals you discover, and talk about what makes each place special. What wildlife did you spot? How did the weather shape the day? What can your family do to help care for this place so others can enjoy it, too?
The adventure doesn't have to stop at home. Mail Zephyrene to grandparents, cousins, or friends living in other cities or states and invite them to take Ze exploring. They'll send photos and stories back, giving children a fun way to learn about new places while staying connected with the people they love. Ask questions like: What was the weather like? What made this place unique? What animals or plants did you see? What was your favorite part of the adventure?
